Janet Joan Francisco Voyles was born 05 Jul 1929 in Farmington, San Juan, New Mexico to Anna Mae Alice Hardgrave Francisco and Merl C Francisco. She joined her older brother Merl, Jr. From her mother's autobiography: "In July 1929, Joan was born; a lovely, blue-eyed, curly haired doll. I went into town and boarded at the home of Mrs. Woods, who was a midwife, who usually went to the homes of her patients but I needed a place to stay where I could have Merl Jr. with me, and she was glad to make the extra money, so Joan was born in her home, July 5th, just barely missing the 4th."
Since her father was in construction/oil, she attended her school years from Shiprock, NM to Farmington, NM to Artesia, NM to Dumas, TX and finally to Ogden, UT. She graduated from Ogden High School a year earlier than the rest of her peers and immediately got a job as a typist at Hill Field (later Hill Air Force Base) in 1946. She continued working here until on 04 Sep 1952 married Linley Vern Voyles. Her sister Joyce and her fiance Merle German went with Lin and Joan, and joined them in a double wedding in Elko, NV.
Lin was a weather observer for the USAF and soon she was following him all over the world until he retired around 1969. They moved to San Antonio where she continued her civil service career at Kelly Air Force Base and then she retired to volunteer work.
