Notes |
- JONAS SHIVERS, JR., son of Jonas Shivers, Sr., and Sarah Shivers, of Pitt County, North Carolina, was born --- and died ---. He lived in Pitt County, North Carolina. The names of his wife and children are unknown. His family is recorded in the census of Pitt County, for 1800 as follows:
1 male between 25 and 45 years
3 males between 1 and 10 years
2 females between 25 and 45 years
1 female between 10 and 15 years
1 female between I and 10 years
Earliest record I have of him is in a deed dated February 8, 1797, in which Sarah Shivers, 'for the love and affection I bear my son Jonah Shivers of the State of North Carolina, Pitt County," granted to Jonah Shivers her right of dowery "in the land and houses wbereon I now live."
He is shown as a son of Jonas Shivers and a participant in the partition of his estate as recorded on January 20, 1799. It is natural to assume that his father was dead at the time his mother conveyed the below mentioned property to him. (Note: Is Jonas Sr. dead at this time? See January 1798 Deed below. HB)
