Death of Mrs. L.W. Harrell
Mrs. Martha Scott Harrell died on August 13th at her home in Scott township, aged 79 years. She had been afflicted with blindness for the past five years, her youngest son, Cleveland, making his home with her that she might be cared for. Her parents, William and Mary Scott, came from Jackson county, Indiana to Madison county nearly 56 years ago and for 52 years Mrs. Harrell had lived in the home where she passed away. From girlhood, she had been a strong church woman, first uniting with the Baptist church in Indiana, then with the Christian Union church at Zion. Lewis W. Harrell, whom she married in 1861, died eleven years ago. Seven children survive their mother: Mrs. Laura Holmes of Elida, N.M.; Mrs. Maggie Schoenenberger, of Peru; Mrs. Ida Sellers, Frank and Cleveland, all of this county; Mrs. Hattie Deal of Newton, Kans., and William C., of Hastings, Nebr. Rev. George D. Rogers conducted the funeral services, which were held at Zion church on Tuesday afternoon, when a large congregation of persons assembled to pay their last
tribute to their beloved neighbor and friend.
