Kathleen Stanford Barber was born July 5, 1925 in Paris, Texas, the only child of Lewis H. and Martha Jeffries Jackson of Lake Creek, Texas. She passed away on August 31, 2013 at her home in Canton, Texas. Kathleen was raised by her maternal Grandmother, Renetta Jeffries after the untimely death of her Mother in 1925. She attended lower schools in Cooper, Texas and college in Paris, Texas. After college, she moved to Dallas, where she was employed by the Veteran's Administration. She was preceded in death by husbands C. L. Stanford and Brown Barber.
Kathleen was a homemaker and was active in her community and the lives of her family. She was an integral figure in the Van Zandt County Library's beginning. She was supportive of her church, the First United Methodist Church, where she raised her family and also the First Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder. Kathleen was also a member of various clubs, volunteer organizations, the DAR and Descendants of the Mayflower. Her hobbies included collecting antiques, reading and traveling, and playing piano.
Her family includes daughters and sons-in-laws, Ann and David Miller, Elaine and Tim Gothard, Julia and John Beazer and Carol Baumgarner. Grandchildren include Laura Garber, Cathy Thane and husband Michael, Bethany Newton and husband, Matt, Jeff Seymore, Brad Seymore and wife Kari, Katherine Scarmardo and husband Chris, John Welsh, Elizabeth Beazer, Jill Baumgarner and Ellen Baumgarner. Great Grandchildren are Chandler Garber, Adam Thane, Kate Thane, Benny Newton, Blake Seymore, Reed Seymore, and Brady Seymore.
The love and support from Kathleen's caregivers during her long illness, most notably Margaret Lewis and Lena Halsey, will never be forgotten.
Under the direction of Eubanks Funeral Home, services will be held at The First United Methodist Church, Canton, Texas on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. and conducted by Reverend John Ziegler and Revered Jon Thornsbury.
Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
