VOICE OF MOSS POINT FOOTBALL DIES AT 70 LADNER ASSUMED A VARIETY OF ROLES IN TIGER PROGRAM
Moss Point lost a valuable member of its football family Sunday with the death of Curtis M. ''Red'' Ladner of Escatawpa.
Ladner, 70, was the voice of the football Tigers for 23 years, working as the public address announcer at Dantzler Stadium. He also called Moss Point football games on the radio and was a past president of the Mississippi Sportscasters Association.
''He meant a lot to the Moss Point program,'' head football coach and athletic director Jerry Alexander said. ''He will be missed by the people of Moss Point.
''He emceed a lot of football banquets. He did the TV show for us as the emcee on cable channel 13. He used to call the games on the radio. He was so valuable in getting the starting lineup before the game, and getting the prayer done on time so we could start the game.''
He was a retired car salesman with Gateway Motors in Pascagoula.
Ladner was born in Poplarville on Sept. 16, 1926. He was a member of Escatawpa Baptist Church and he was a Mason.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford, Sam and Delas, and three sisters, Letha, Eva and Ola.
Survivors include his wife, Georgie Oliver Ladner of Escatawpa; a daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Don Eaves of Louisville; a son and , Lloyd and Debbie Oliver Jr. of Escatawpa; a sister, Donna Warren of Poplarville; and four grandchildren.
The funeral service will be today at 2 p.m. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home. Burial will be in Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula.
