Nelson County, Kentucky, Pioneer, Vol. XI, # 1, Summer 1987
The 1805 Tax List of Nelson County, Kentucky: As the nineteenth century began, settlers continued to move across the Ohio River from Kentucky. However, this was more than matched by the increased movement from the eastern states to Kentucky, which resulted in a net gain of nearly 6% in the first five years. The following is a summary of the Nelson County, Tax list:
Northern Area: Herrell, John
Southern Area: Isaac Harrell, James Harrell, William Harrell, James Harrell
In the Southern Area my guess is:
Isaac - s/o Moses Sr.
James - s/o Moses Sr.
William - s/o Richard 1700
James - James Jr., s/o James Sr. who is s/o Richard 1700

From "Early Ohio Settlers" (Purchasers of Land in Southwestern Ohio, 1800-1840" Comp. by Ellen T. Berry & David A. Berry, pub. Baltimore, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. 1986, page 133
Chester Harrel 7 Aug 1805 with residence in Montgomery; (Son of William Harrell/Susannah Chester)
James Harrell 3 Sept 1805 with residence in Butler; (Son of William Harrell/ Susannah Chester)
James Harrell 18 Dec 1806 with residence in "Kentucky"; (Son of James Sr./Margery)
John Harrell 26 Aug 1805 with residence in "Kentucky"; (Son of William Harrell/Susannah Chester)
Isaac Harrell 15 Apr 1812 with residence in Preble. (Son of Chester and Delilah Doom)
All names above with this footnote:
"Miami River Survey, Ranges I - VIII; Land lying east of a meridian drawn from the mouth of the Great Miami River. Hamilton, Butler, Shelby, Warren, Montgomery, Miami, Preble, Logan, and Darke Counties (may be all or only a part of each county) - all in Ohio"

? This leaves the James Harrell who purchased OH land 3 Sept 1805 who was living in Butler Co., OH. I don't know who this James Harrell is but he could be the elder James Harrell who we have speculated is the father of Gabriel, etc.
Source: Bill Thielbahr, Partial Email, 5/17/2010
Revised:
I don?t believe this person is the same as James Harrell who purchased OH land in 1805 and who was living in Butler Co. at the time. But our document (Early Ohio Settlers) says this James Harrell who purchased land in 1806 lives in KY. This person would fit James Jr. who we think is living with his mother Margery in 1810 in Nelson Co., KY. So we probably don?t have a "loose" James Harrell if we assume he is James Jr.
So James Jr. could have purchased this land from his residence in Nelson Co. in 1806. It fits. I believe the other James Harrell who purchased land in 1805 is s/o William & Susannah Harrell.

Below are my (WRONG) guesses for above 1810 census Nelson Co. James/Eliz Crume. (Different family below):
2 M 10-15 = James M. (Family #10), Didn't marry until 1814 Knox Co., IN, so still at home in 1810
= Aaron Harrell b. 1796-1799, Idiotic
3 M 16-25 = Jesse b. 1780-1790, Didn't marry until 1812 Butler Co., OH Hannah Frakes
= Gabriel b. 1780-1790, m. Sarah Unknown and then Rachel Toombs, unknown first marriage date, but first child not born until 1818
= Phillip b. 1878, m. Catherine Redding 1812 Butler Co., OH
1 M 45+ = James Harroe/Harrell Jr. b. 1760-1770
2 F 10-15 = Nancy b. 1796 m. James Irwin Jr. 1815 Butler County, OH
= Unknown Female
There is no aged mother female listed, and there is no son for Moses 1803 listed in 1810. I wonder if Moses's mother died when he was born, and a relative took him in.
