Notes |
- Henry told the census taker he was born in Tennessee in 1794. It's probably true because George Hurst Sr. is not found in any Virginia tax record, as are his brothers. Henry died in Sevier County, Tennessee.
The 1850 Census for Sevier County, lists his family living near Westly Inman, Marell Breeden and William Inman.
HURST, Henry 56 m TN farmer illiterate
Mahala 53 f TN "
Mary 19 f TN in school
Thompson 15 m TN in school
Elizabeth 13 f TN in school
Andrew 7 m TN in school
In addition his household had
MILLS, Asa 45 m TN farmer literate
Mahala 18 f TN literate
This younger Mahala is their daughter Mahala born about 1832 and marr ied to Asa Mills in Dec. 1848.
In the 1860 Sevier County, TN census Henry was in the h/h of his daughter and son-in-law, Vickey and Marrell Breeden.
Henry Hurst is not listed in the 1870 US Census for Sevier County, either alone or in the household of one of his known children, (and no Henry Hurst of appropriate age was found) he is listed in the household of Meriel (actually Marrell) and Vickey (Hurst) Breeden in 1860, so he died between 1860 and 1870.
Henry probably settled in Wilhite Creek Valley about the time of his marriage to Mahala, in 1816. While not as large a landowner as his brother George, he owned about 130 acres, in 1850, in lower Wilhite Creek Valley, Sevier County, TN.
