SALINA--Services will be Wed. at First United Methodist Church here for Ernest W. Strahan, 70, who died Sat. at his home here. He was a state senator 15 years and had been ill several months.
He was chairman of the Kansas Senate Transportation and Utilities Committee.
Mr. Strahan also was a member of the Kansas Senate Agriculture and Livestock Committee and the Kansas Turnpike Authority.
He was an unsuccessful candidate for Congress in Republican primary elections before he was elected to the Kansas Senate in 1956. He currently was serving his fourth term in the Senate.
He was born March 1, 1901, at Williamsburg in Franklin County and attended Ottawa Univ. He lived at Salina since 1935 and owned a butter and ice cream manufacturing firm at Salina.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge, and Salina Country Club, all at Salina.
He was married to the former Helen Dillingham. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Lt. John Wesley Strahan, serving with the Army in Vietnam; 4 brothers, Wayne Strahan, Salina, William Strahan, 3101 Dorr, Topeka, Donald Strahan, Santa Barbara, Ca., and Maurice Strahan, Long Beach Ca.; 3 sisters, Mrs. Emmett Ames, South Pasadena, Ca., Mrs. Clyde Dawson, Hayward, Ca., and Mrs. Al Korngiebel, Pasadena, Ca.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Salina.
