"George Hurst, son of John, was born in Frederick County during the 1760s. He married Martha Breeding in Shenandoah County, Virginia on June 26, 1789. Martha Breeding Hurst was born in 1769 and died after 1850. He may have lived for a time in Wythe County and then is reported to have come to Claiborne County, Tenn. From Claiborne George Hurst migrated to Sevier County, Tennessee where he is located in the year 1803. He died between the years 1840 and 1850.
Marriage and other county records indicate that large numbers of Hursts lived in Sevier County at an early date.
George Hurst's children were: 1. George who was born in 1792, 2. Henry who was born in 1794, 3. John who was born in 1804, 4. James, who was born in 1805, 5. Seiver, who was born in 1809."
"The Hurst Family" by Patrick Pearsey
"George Hurst Sr. was born about 1765 in Frederick County, Virginia to John and Nancy (Nunn) Hurst. He married on June 30, 1789 in Shenandoah County, Virginia to Martha "Pattie" Breeding, born 1768, died after 1850 in Sevier County, Kentucky. George Hurst was probably still living with his father when the taxes were collected in Shenandoah County, Virginia, May 14, 1789, being one of the four males over 21 years of age in the household of John Hurst. George Hurst appears to have settled in the state of Tennessee by 1792. That is when his son George Hurst Jr. was born in Tennessee, according to the 1850 census of Sevier County, Tennessee.
George Hurst received Tennessee land grant #793 for 97 acres, located on the east fork of Little Pigeon River, surveyed in 1807. In May of 1807 George Hurst owned land in Sevier County, Tennessee that lay on the waters of Wilhites Fork. George Hurst Sr. served as a private in Bunch's Regiment of East Tennessee militia in 1814. J.K.P. Hurst stated in 1902 that George moved to Jessamine County, Kentucky and later moved to Missouri. The facts show that the 1840 census listed George Hurst Sr. In 1850, the census showed his wife Martha, then aged 88, born Virginia, heading a household in Sevier County, Tennessee. George her husband apparently died between 1840-50 in Sevier County.
